My approach is to give you the skills to make a change, the support to know what each next step is, and how to achieve it.
Early Intervention for 0-3 year olds
Are you concerned that your child isn't talking yet, or has a speech or language delay?
Are you concerned that your child doesn’t seem to understand you when you ask questions, or give instructions?
Are you looking to provide the best start to your child’s communication journey through interaction and enjoyment; delighting in books, music and each other?
Communication Delays and Late Talkers
Using the Hanen “It Takes Two to Talk”® gold-standard approach for supporting early communication development, combined with experience integrating thoughts, theories and tools from approaches including Circle of Security® Parenting™ (COS-P) , Makaton/Key Word Sign and PECS as needed, we provide individualised therapy for young children who have communication delays. Sessions are available at a frequency that suits you and your family best; always maximising parent education and support so that you feel empowered to take the next steps forward in your journey together.
Hanen “IT Takes Two To Talk”®
The Hanen “It Takes Two to Talk” programme is a gold-standard approach to early communication development, available through both individual consultations, and as a supportive caregiver group course for you and your child’s other caregivers. “It Takes Two to Talk” guides participants through the foundations of learning about early communication development, right through to how, specifically, to support your child’s understanding and expression using video-feedback and caregiver coaching. As a participant of the caregiver group course, you will also enjoy the support and sharing of other caregivers on a similar journey. Find out more about the research evidence here, or read further at hanen.org.
Circle of Security® Parenting™ (COS-P)
The Circle of Security® Parenting™ (COS-P) programme is available as both an approach available through individual consultations, and as a parent course - both focused on early, affirming, interaction between caregivers and their children. From an attachment-focused viewpoint the programme works through facilitated reflections and in the group setting, with peer support, to enhance you and your child’s communication and relationship. For more information, and videos on the nature of the programme visit circleofsecurityinternational.com/for-parents
Makaton / Key Word Sign
By incorporating natural gestures and Makaton/Key Word Signs into daily routines and interactions, young children who need additional support for their communication can be empowered to understand others and express themselves with gestures - always alongside their verbal communication support and development. More information and resources are available at The Makaton Charity.
Picture Exchange Communication System
The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is a form of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) that can unlock the world of communication for little ones who are finding talking and expressing themselves difficult, but have the awareness and understanding that communication is important!
